As part of the celebrations for our 40th anniversary, Derwent Runners are staging the inaugural ‘Derwent Runners 4’ race on Sunday 8th June 2025, starting at 9:30am. The event is being organised in conjunction with Derbyshire County Cricket Club and will start on the outfield of the iconic County Ground, and incorporate two laps of the historic Derby Racecourse which adjoins the County Ground.
The race is a four mile event, but will also include a separately timed final mile in recognition of the original ‘Derby Mile’, part of the old Racecourse running from where the Paddock pub on Mansfield Road now stands, to the grandstand in what is now the County Ground. Runners will be chip timed, and will receive a time for the four mile race as well as for the final ‘Derby Mile’. There will be prizes for both races including for age categories, and there will be mementoes for all runners including tickets to a T20 game at the County Ground.
Following the main race, there will also be a one mile Family Run for both children and adults of all abilities starting at 10:30am, with race mementoes for all runners. The minimum age for participants is 4 years old, but Under 11s must be accompanied by an adult. Numbers are limited to a maximum of 100, which includes accompanying adults. Places must be booked in advance through the website. The Family Run is not timed, but all runners will receive a race memento. Children must not be carried, and buggies/pushchairs are not permitted. Dogs are not allowed.
For this first year, numbers will be capped at 300 for the main race, and 100 for the Family Run.
As well as being a celebration for Derwent Runners, proceeds from the event will also go to the Derbyshire Cricket Foundation and to Derbyshire Mind. Derwent Runners has been linked to Derbyshire Mind for several years – the club is keen to promote the link between exercise and mental wellbeing, and hopes this event will further spread that message.
Entry for the main race will be £15 for runners affiliated to England Athletics, or £17 for those who are not. Entry for the Family Run will be £3. Click below to enter either or both races.
